October, 2017 will go down in history as one of the most expository day for
those who were present for the Jenta Reads Financial Summit.
The Resource
Person, Mr. Emmanuel Peter, began with the need for creating a financial plan.
“We take years
to plan for our careers, we devote month in preparation for wedding festivals
and we take several hours to plan for a lot of important things but we never
take time to plan for the most important facet of our lifes-finances” he said.
“Our finance determines the kind of life we live, it remains true that money is
a vital prerequisite for a successful life. Money is what place you into the
rich or poor category. The only thing we get for free is oxygen, even at that,
sometimes oxygen becomes the most expensive commodity”.
He went on to
highlight Seven Points curled from the Richest Man in Babylon by George Classon
(Available in Jenta Reads Community Library).
1.
Start thy purse to fattening.
2.
Control Thy Expenditures.
3.
Make thy gold multiply.
4.
Guard thy treasures from loss.
5.
Make of thy dwelling a
profitable investment.
6.
Insure a future income.
7.
Increase thy ability to learn.
Lessons were
drawn from the stories of John D. Rockfeller, Bill Gates, Rick Warren and other
wealthiest people of the earth.
“I do not
believe that you ought to save. I believe you should invest. Investment is
different from saving. You save and your money is not multiplying, when you
invest your money works even in your absence. Invest your money, don’t just
save”.
He concluded
that “Financial stability is a long term goal. You plan for it today. Don’t
wait until you have retired before you start planning for your financial life. Every
day you need money, till the day you are no more and for all of these days, you
should have a plan on how to respond to this quest of money.”
Financial
Freedom is one of the missions of Jenta Reads Initiative. Jenta will outlive
the status of being a slum when everyone is financial independent.
