1ST PRIZE WINNING ESSAY| BY JOSEPH PETER SUNDAY

THE JENTA OF MY DREAMS

Many people think that Jenta is one of the worst districts or areas in Jos, they think that like Nazareth, nothing good will come out of Jenta. Even the government has forgotten about Jenta, they think that it is impossible for all the smokers and drug dealers in the jungles to change. The hopeless children in the streets without good education are always neglected by the local, state and most especially the federal government. Anyone who sees Jenta this way is wrong because Jenta has people with great potentials.

My dream for every child in Jenta is to have determination for education, like forgetting about every unusual things of the world like fashion, having phones, having girlfriends, or boyfriends, but to have the zeal for both informal and formal education. I, as a child, will like to see that most of my mates are so intelligent and understanding. My hope is that every child in Jenta will try to sacrifice time for play and read his/her books. I believe that the children of Jenta will get familiar with the library and also make time to come.

Another thing is that I want Jenta to have peace amongst themselves. Like the slogan of our country says “Unity and faith, peace and progress” and the slogan of Plateau State says “Home of Peace and Tourism”, I want us to have peace in order for the progress and success of our community so we have to put away all sorts of malice against one another for the peace and unity of our community.

My dream for Jenta is that I want to wake up one morning and see that these jungles have been transformed, mostly the youths who are living a negative life presently. I want to see that all those youths in the jungles have changed from their wayward lives to become responsible and God-fearing people. Because it is a sorrowful thing to see that our youths are not displaying a good example to us as younger ones. I also thank God for the Jenta Reads Team who are working tirelessly concerning this case and we have really learned much and we are still learning many positive things. It will be my dream to see that Jenta is transformed entirely and has people of integrity towards it.

The Jenta of my dreams is a Jenta that is transformed entirely in every aspect of life. Let’s not even talk of the roads and the lack of water because I believe that a time is coming when we the younger generation will rise up and see to all these problems and then those who are leaving Jenta because they think it is a polluted place for their children will wish they never did, and all the neighboring areas that are looking down on us will see that God has turned the rejected stone to a cornerstone, and they will know that Jenta is a great place.

My dream for Jenta is that when we grow older even though people are living their lives for enjoyment or pleasure, we should make a difference positively.
